Development Forest Event #4 @ Karaka Swamp
Orienteering in Woodhill Forest - an area with awesome intricate sand dune terrain in an open pine forest. Some controls on farmland. Sorry NO dogs at this event.
Orienteering - on Foot - you choose your pace. Usually as individuals but groups can go together.
All welcome (and you don't need to be a member to get started)
Select from a range of 9 courses of varying length and difficulty. Suitable for all ages, levels, and beginners. Some children need to be accompanied by adult.
- White Very easy
- Yellow Easy
- Orange Short & Orange Long Moderate
- Red 1,2,3, 4 Technical courses for more experienced orienteers
- Purple Technical but less physically challenging course aimed at older orienteers
The Red courses offer challenging, technical orienteering.
White/ Yellow and Orange courses make greater use of tracks and easier terrain.

- Start any time between 10am & 12:00 pm (noon). If you would like do do more than one course - please ensure you restart before 12:00pm
- Courses close: 2:00pm. Please plan and ensure you return to the finish by course closure time.
Directions
Event access is from Wilson Road, South Head.
The event will be signposted from the Parakai Roundabout
From Auckland, take the Northwestern Motorway/SH16 towards Helensville. At the roundabout just before Helensville, turn left towards Parakai. Continue straight through the township and along South Head Road for approx. 15km. Turn LEFT into Wilson Road and drive for approx. 7km before turning RIGHT at the marked driveway.
NB Part of Wilson Road is gravel and there are a few pot holes, please drive with caution.
Please allow yourself plenty of time to get to the event – we recommend at least 80 mins driving time from central Auckland.
Parking
Parking will be in a paddock approx. 300m from the road. There is a track through the paddock however anyone unsure about driving on this must park on the road, on the left-hand side past the entrance to the farm. Please park as directed by the Parking Marshals.
Event
There is an 800m walk from the event centre to the start and due to recent rain there is an unavoidable swamp enroute. If you don’t want wet feet before you start, we recommend BYO gumboots!
