COVID-19 implications
We are in the midst of unprecedented disruption due to the Covid-19 virus. We are working to find the right balance of calm and change of behaviour required for the weekend ahead by encouraging to keep orienteering as well as modify personal behaviour. Orienteering is an individual, outdoor sport, so we believe the health risk of going orienteering during this epidemic is low, provided we all modify behaviour. We are monitoring government recommendations around large gatherings of people and at this stage the weekend event will continue. If the situation changes, we will let everyone know as soon as possible, so please check the Facebook page for NWOC, or this page regularly. For now we ask everyone to comply with the following guidelines regarding attending the events.
Please, you must not come to the event if you fall into one of the following categories:
-
If you are unwell with a cough or fever or other respiratory symptoms;
-
If you have been in close contact with a confirmed case of Covid-19 in the past 14 days;
-
If you have recently returned from overseas and especially if your return is since 1 am on 16 March 2020;
-
If you are undergoing Covid-19 testing until you have received your results;
-
If you have been advised to stay at home by a health professional.
In order to limit personal contact and to avoid sharing of equipment at the events we will be taking the actions listed below:
-
There will be NO results tent nor any commentary. Overall results will be published asap after the events on winsplits and our NWOC website, and we'll endeavour to have Routegadget up and running asap afterwards;
-
Water will NOT be provided at the event centre or on course. Please bring your own water for both days, and bring plenty! Competitors are strongly encouraged to carry their own water on the course, and to drink their own water afterwards;
-
We discourage people staying around to socialise after the event;
-
We ask you to bring your own hand sanitiser;
-
Maps will be kept by competitors, and not shared;
-
Start and finishes are arranged in such a way to allow a minimum of one meter distance between competitors;
-
At registration and download, additional measures will be in place to minimise interpersonal interaction while sharing equipment like tablets and borrowed SI cards.
Lets all work together and enjoy the respite the sport of orienteering gives in these challenging times.
We're looking forward to a weekend of quality orienteering on exciting new maps!
