Hello everyone
We are counting down the days until Sunday 05 July and our first post-lockdown event in Woodhill Forest! Nick Harris and Dave Middleton have set the courses making the most of the world class orienteering terrain in Woodhill Forest. Whites Line is a classic Woodhill Forest map – mature pine forest, fast running with areas of detailed contours – the perfect map to find your orienteering feet again! The longer courses will challenge the elite runners with some low visibility forest in the coastal strip but less experienced orienteers will find orange and yellow courses to suit.
Please pre-enter for this event via Enter-O to help us manage planning for the day and as a form of contact tracing. The link is here or at https://entero.co.nz/evento.php?eventName=aos2-2020. More details are on our website here. Family maximum price is $40.
Can you help out on the day (Setting up tents from 8.00am, Registration, Start, helping newcomers etc)? We would also love some volunteers to help pack up when courses close around 2.00pm and to collect controls – a great opportunity for more training!
If you can help in any way please contact Lisa Mead on mead10b@gmail.com or Mobile 021 1359631.
See you all in the forest soon

Orienteering at Covid 19 Alert level One
While most restrictions no longer apply at Covid19 level one we need to ensure the health and well-being of all participants and club volunteers and comply with public health recommendations for gatherings and hygiene. Our goal is that no infections should happen whilst people participate in orienteering.
Throughout New Zealand’s response to COVID-19 we were asked to Unite against COVID and as communities, families and individuals we have all taken the steps to enable us to move down the Alert Levels and gain more freedom and flexibility in what we do. We want to stress that this individual responsibility remains and is called for at all events, so that we can all continue to enjoy these freedoms.
Competitors:l
We ask everyone to comply with the following guidelines regarding attending the events. You must not come to the event if you fall into one of the following categories:
o If you or someone you are in close contact with are unwell with a cough or fever or other respiratory symptoms
o If you have been in close contact with a suspected or confirmed case of COVID-19 until you have completed the prescribed quarantine period of 14 days, even if you are completely symptom free.
o If you (or if anyone close to you) have been overseas or in self-isolation within the last two weeks prior to the event you must stay away
o If you are undergoing COVID-19 testing until you have received negative results and are symptom-free
o If you have been advised to stay at home by a health professional.
Individual Responsibility: Actions YOU should take at orienteering events:
- We ask you to take care with hygiene and regularly clean your hands with an alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water.
• We ask that you practice coughing/sneezing into your elbow (or use a handkerchief or tissue).
- Avoid spitting or blowing nasal mucus in places where others may run or come into contact with it.
- While out on the course, be respectful of other runners e.g. making space for others to overtake by moving off the track and overtaking others in a respectful way.
As a club we will undertake to provide a safe environment for orienteering.
- We ask that you pre-enter for AOS 2 on 5 July using Enter-O online registration with payment online preferred.
• This will help us maintain a record of contact details for all entries to enable contact tracing if necessary.
• Water will NOT be provided at the event centre or on course – bring your own water/drinks/ food.
• Measures will be taken to minimise the use and sharing of event equipment. Frequently touched surfaces and equipment will be cleaned regularly.
- Toilets will be provided and hand sanitiser provided next to the toilets. We encourage you to bring your own sanitizer, wipes etc if you are uncomfortable with the basic facilities provided.

Membership
Many thanks to all those of you who have already paid your 2020 membership – we think that the busy calendar of events for the second half of this year will help make up for the events cancelled or postponed due to Covd19.
We encourage everyone to renew their membership as this will entitle you to members’ rates at the upcoming AOS series events, free entry to the Auckland club relays and eligibility for the 2020 National Champs which are likely to be held at Labour Weekend. In addition, we support club members with travel grants – this year the Junior Camp will be held in December in Nelson.
Details of the membership rates and the club bank account can be found here https://www.nwoc.org.nz/registration/ – no need for existing members to log in or re-register.
Stay safe and see you in the forest soon!
